My Little Oxymorons

Lots of people ask me about the boys' personalities. Who is the leader? Who is more outgoing? Who is the mean one (terrible question, don't ever ask a mom that!)? And it is so hard for me to give them answers.

We have always say that Kase is the easy going one. And I would still say that he is, but more and more he is getting more assertive.

Kyle has always been more demanding and insistent on getting his way. I've been caught telling him that I would throw him in the river or lock him in his room. And I'm only kidding (mostly), but he can wear me out.

But then they do things that are completely opposite of the personalities that we have assigned them.

Kase is not good at sharing. At.All. If he wants something that Kyle has, he will take it. And more than half the time Kyle will be so easy going about it. He will just go get something else to play with. Not all the time... there are many times I have to run to a crying Kyle's rescue.

As the more demanding of the two, I wouldn't expect Kyle to be as sweet and kind as he is.

Months ago, when I brought home a baby doll (against Jason's wishes) for the boys to play pretend with, Kyle became very attached. He would hug the doll and be so sweet with him. The doll became an aid in getting him to go to bed. We would ask him where his baby was and he would want to lay in bed and hug on the baby. Cutest thing ever!

His new thing is to cover the baby up and pretend that he is sleeping. The other day when I was taking video of the boys playing in their cribs, I saw him say "shhhh" for the fist time. Except he touches his finger to his nose instead of covering his lips and says "sssss" instead of "shhhh." Okay, maybe this is the cutest thing ever.

You have to ignore the noise that Kase is making in the background (its easy, I do it all the time!). He wanted to get his little hands on the camera.

Kansas Cousin

Ben, Wendy and Madison came to Texas for a visit back in July. Madison is only 10 months older than the boys so they had a blast playing together. Their nap schedules were completely opposite so their time together was limited, but they made the most of it.

We hosted a day of fun for the kids at our house on Saturday. The West Family was able to come also.

The kids stayed cool by playing in the water.

Getting everyone fed was kind of like a circus. We had sandwiched for lunch and Jason grilled steak and vegetable for dinner. Here are some of the adults trying to make sure the kids get fed.

And we had to have snacks. I made some yogurt and blueberry popsicles. They were a hit! A messy hit!

Kase was nice enough to share with Jason!

And there was yummy watermelon!

It was great to see Ben, Wendy, and Madison. We can't wait for them to come back next year.... with another cousin!

When I Thought My Life Was Over

Several weeks ago I put the boys down for their nap and then got in the shower. While in the shower I heard some little boy jibber jabber in our bedroom and figured that I must have left the monitor turned on. Two seconds later I heard the same jibber jabber in the bathroom. I looked over the shower door to find Kase standing in the middle of the bathroom with such a proud look on his face.

So completely confused, I rinsed off, threw on a towel, and picked Kase up. I told him it was time to go night night and then put him back in his crib. Then I watched him on the video monitor crawl out of his crib. Before he walked out of the room, he went over to Kyle's bed and patted him on the head. Then he opened the door and closed it behind him.

I had no idea what I was going to do. When Jason got home, we figured out that Kase's mattress could be set directly on the floor, inside of the crib. So this is it. This is as low as it will go.

One day last week, the boys were playing in their cribs before nap time. I took this video of Kase crawling out of Kyle's crib. What a couple of messes!

Dan's Wedding

Way back on July 10th we drove up to Dallas to go to Dan and Laura's wedding. We stayed at the Magnolia Hotel in downtown Dallas... the same place we set up camp for Megan's wedding back in November. It brought back so many fun memories of her wedding weekend.

The reception was at a really cool museum downtown. During the cocktail hour Kyle and Kase had way too much fun playing with the telephones that played recordings describing each of the exhibits.

We sat at a table in a corner so that we could block off a little area for the boys to play around in. And I was a Super Mom when I pulled a couple of cars out of my bag for the boys to play with. Kyle had a blast, and we were all highly entertained.

Kase trying to figure out how to get a hold of that Shiner.

After dinner the boys fell asleep, so my Mom and I sat and held them until we left. But, don't feel bad for us because we got to sit and watch...

this...

and this...

and lots of this...

Great wedding Dan and Laura! It was a long time coming!

I Love You!

I finally figured this out...

The Lawn Boy

I have a ton of posts to catch up on and I'm trying to upload some CUTE video, but here is a quick picture post.

Kase loves to push/pull/drag anything, and this lawn mower is one of his favorites. Both boys love to wear hats too. Put them together and you have this....
