Kyle's Hat

When the boys were just a few weeks old, the Pitts Family came over for a visit and Cason left his Sponge Bob hat at our house. It hung on a hook by the front door for a long time because I could never remember to return it to Cason. Months had passed and the Pitts' were over again. I was so proud of myself for remembering to give the hat back to Cason. As I was handing the hat back to Cason, Kyle saw it and decided that it was something that he might want. Cason was nice enough to give it to Kyle and let him keep it. I need to remember to thank Cason for that very nice gesture... because Kyle now LOVES that hat! It still hangs on the hook by the front door and Kyle asks (reaches and whines) for someone to get it down just about every day.

He loves to put it on and take it off... and put it on and take it off... And I think he looks like such a little boy with it on!

This hat has become "Kyle's hat." There are a few toys/objects that each of the boys gravitate to. Kase used to carry around this little purple telephone. It was "Kase's phone." One day I noticed that Kase was holding "Kyle's hat." I watched Kyle bring Kase a different baseball hat and then take his from Kase. The switch worked and Kase didn't freak out.

Gotta Start Somewhere...

I feed the boys almost the exact same breakfast almost every morning because I'm usually tired and it doesn't require me to think! I found a good recipe for whole wheat pancakes that I like. You mix up the dry ingredients ahead of time so they are really quick and easy to make. I usually make a week's worth on Saturday or Sunday and freeze the extras. I spread a little applesauce on them instead of butter and syrup.

Along with a pancake, the boys share a container of yogurt and some applesauce. Recently they have been grabbing at the spoon while I feed them and wanting to try and feed themselves. On this morning, one day last week, we were not going to the gym after breakfast so I could give the boys a bath instead. So I decided to let them practice feeding themselves with their own bowl and spoon.

So far so good...

Kase gets really serious when he is working on something.

Things get a little messy...

Wrong end of the spoon there, Buddy!

And yogurt is in Kyle's hair... I can hear him say "oh" every time I see this picture.

At this point he was just sticking his hand in and licking the yogurt off his hand... like a little honey bear!

Lots of times at the table the boys will do silly things to make the other one laugh. I love this picture of Kase looking over at Kyle and laughing!

And FYI... they still wear Chirstmas pajamas... becuase they still fit...

It's cold and rainy today in Texas... and it might even snow! So that means that it is too cold to leave the house or go to the gym. So because we'll be stuck inside I had to bend some rules and play with outside toys in the house. The boys had a blast and it kept them entertained for like 20 minutes while I checked my email. Bonus!

Happy Baptismal Birthday

Today is Kyle and Kase's Baptismal Birthday. One year ago today they became children of God. It is a very special day for our family. Today would have been my grandpa's 80th birthday. He also had a twin brother, and Kase's middle name (Warden) comes from his last name (Wardenburg). We all miss him so much!

I remember getting ready for church one year ago today. I had written out a detailed schedule that included both Lara and Eric coming over to hold babies so that we could all make it to church in time for the late service at 10:30. We were still 10 minutes late! And I remember being quite proud that we almost made it there on time. Its easier to get us dressed and out of the house these days, but we still can't manage to get to church on time!

It was special standing in the same spot that Jason and I had been married in just a year and a half before, as the boys were baptised into God's family.

Today my Mom brought over an angel food cake to celebrate! She bagged a piece up for me to eat on my way to work... yum! The boys got to have a little sample too! Jenny sent me these pictures of the boys eating cake.

Snack Time

Remember when Kyle used to sleep in the bathroom?

Well, it seems that he still likes to hang out in there. Kase was still taking a nap the other day so I gave Kyle some snacks in a snack trap to keep him quiet, and he decided to eat them in the bathroom.

I think Kase says so much with his eyes. He is such a sweet kid. I look down at those dark eyes of his and just want to scoop him up and squeeze him.

Upromise What?

About five months ago I signed up for a Upromise account and then a few days later created 529 college savings accounts for the boys. Four years of college at a state school in Texas is estimated to run just under $100,000. Time TWO ya'll!

You can earn money from Upromise several ways. You can eat at certain restaurants and use certain credit cards when you do it. You can buy certain groceries at certain grocery stores. You can earn a percentage of your online purchases. And you can earn a percentage of purchases charges on your Upromise credit card (kinda like you would earn miles on some credit cards). Right now I have almost $100 in my Upromise account.

I earn the most from my Upromise credit card and from online purchases. There are literally hundreds of online stores that will give 1-20 percent of your purchase back to you to use for college down the road. Examples...

The Shutterfly contribution is 8%
Old Navy is usually 2%, but it 20% until February 4th.
The Children's Place is 3%
Target, Kohl's, Office Max, Best Buy, Pottery Barn, Victoria's Secret, even ebay. Seriously, just about every online store out there with give a Upromise contribution.

What's that? You want to help Kyle and Kase go to college too? If you don't already have your own Upromise account and you do any amount of online shopping... you can also earn money for Kyle and Kase to go to college. If you click on the link below and then search for the store you want to shop at, the online store's contribution will get deposited into my Upromise account. The deposit will just show up under "guest shopping." I won't know who did the shopping or what was bought. So I won't be all up in your business!

And if you have your own little one to save for, consider setting up an Upromise account. Every little bit helps, right?
