Kase's Morning Stretch

Both boys sleep in tight swaddle blankets through the night, so in the morning when it is time to get out of the blanket Kase likes to stretch it out. He will do this for several minutes each morning. I love watching him. It was still pretty early when this video was taken so its kinda dark.

Kyle's Birthday Present to Aunt Jenny

Aunt Enny (that's what the boys call her) turned 26 last week. Kyle gave her a nice big smile for her birthday. He got off pretty cheap.

Random Pictures from Week 7

They are really starting to enjoy playing on the activity mat. I can usually get a good twenty minutes out of them in the morning. Kyle on the left, Kase on the right.

This is how I spent the majority of last Friday night. We are all getting better at the double feed. I usually can get going by myself when I'm home alone during the day, but its a lot easier if someone is around to hand me baby number two. This night Jason helped me get going, the boys ate, and we sat in the chair for three hours until it was time to eat again. Jason was busy making potato soup. It was so yummy. I ate it while the boys had their second helping of milk. Luckily they fell asleep after dinner number two because I was about to pee my pants.

Sweet Baby Kyle sleeping.

Kase Thinks I Can be Replaced

The other morning the boys were playing on their activity mat. I went into the kitchen to do something and when I walked back into the room Kase was going to town on Kyle's elbow. I guess the boy was still hungry.

He kinda stopped before I could get the camera out so use your imagination.

More videos!

Because Kase had two videos and I have to make things fair...Kyle... just hangin' out...

And lots of people ask me if the boys notice each other and interact with each other. The answer... not so much. Not yet at least. When I do lay them next to each other one usually ends up hitting the other in the face. I'm assuming it is not on purpose.

Guess who got 3 1/2 hours of sleep... IN A ROW!

Here is a run down of how the night went...

10:30 - Midnight:
Fed the boys and got them to sleep in their crib, set out two bottles of breast milk that I had pumped earlier in the day.

Midnight - 3:30 am:
I slept 3 and a half glorious hours!

3:30 - 5:00:
Some one woke up screaming (I can't remember who), grab him out of the crib as fast as possible so that he won't wake up his brother, stuff the 2 ounces of milk down him from a bottle, change his diaper now that he isn't starving and screaming, nurse for 20-30 minutes until he falls asleep, burp, lay him back in bed without waking him up, hope that the extra milk will keep him sleeping longer. Repeat.

5:00 - 6:30:
More sleep! Yea!

6:30 - 7:00:
Kyle wakes up earlier than I was hoping, nurse Kyle, replace Kase's passy because he is starting to fuss in bed, Kyle falls asleep after nursing for about 25 minutes, burp Kyle, put him in the swing so that I can be on passy patrol while feeding Kase, go get Kase but realize he is sleeping again, risk getting them off schedule as I decided to let Kase sleep while I get a few more winks.

7:00 - 8:15:
Even more sleep for me! This never happens! I do get up a couple times to put Kase's passy back in.

8:15 - 8:45:
Kase wakes me up crying in his crib, I take him out to the living room so that I have easy access to Kyle who is still in the swing, start to nurse Kase (who hasn't eaten in probably 4 hours and has a dirty diaper at least that old), Kyle (who ate less than two hours ago) starts screaming, more screaming, lay Kase on the activity mat, nurse Kyle

Somehow Kase was in a great mood even though he had a dirty diaper and had to wait for his demanding brother to finish eating. I was very surprised that I got this video of him kind of smiling while nursing Kyle.

My New Toy

I bought a Flip video camera today so I had to try it out. The very first go around I happened to capture Kase sneezing. Its pretty cute! The boys have just started smiling so it will now be my mission to get that on video.

6 Weeks

The boys turned 6 weeks old yesterday. We celebrated by opening up a new toy, the Baby Einstein Activity Gym. Everyone had a ball! Kyle on the left, Kase on the right.

Rub a Dub Dub

After Kyle's belly button healed up, the boys were cleared to take their first real bath. They have only had sponge baths up until now. They both like being in the warm water, but getting in and out was not their favorite part. I wish these pictures were scratch and sniff, because there is nothing like the smell of a clean baby. So sweet!

Rollin' with the Homies

Last Saturday Jason and I took the boys out for their first stroll around the neighborhood. It was nice to get out of the house and the boys liked it too... they slept the entire time!

Holy Cow, this is hard!

I have been absent from blogging for the last few weeks because I have literally not had a moment to sit down and write anything. The boys don't sleep all day like they used to. Plus I think they are both going through growth spurts so they want to eat all the time. Kase's was actually last week and he has the cheeks to prove it. Kyle has decided that he wants to try to catch up to his brother so he has wanted to eat about every two hours today. Kyle is a slow eater so it takes me at least an hour to feed both of them. And they eat every two to three hours during the day.... you do that math! Right now Kase is asleep in the swing and Kyle is kinda asleep on the activity gym in the middle of the living room floor. He still needs his paci replaced every few minutes. So, I've got a few minutes to try and update everyone on what is going on.

I've decided that raising twins is the hardest thing I've even done and the hardest part of that has got to be breastfeeding twins. It is an emotional roller coaster. One nursing session will go wonderfully and I will have no doubt that I'll be able to do this as long as I want. The next session both boys will be hungry at the same time and decide they want to take forever to latch on while their brother is screaming his head off. They are both slowly getting better at being more consistent. The other hard part of breastfeeding is not knowing exactly how much each baby is getting. And I'm bad at convincing myself that I'm not producing enough milk and I'm starving my boys... even though they poop and pee all day long.

The first four weeks were the worst. We went to the doctor every week for weight checks.

birth - 6 lbs. 4 oz.
2 weeks - 6 lbs. 9 oz.
3 weeks - 6 lbs. 13 oz.
4 weeks - 7 lbs. 8 oz.

birth - 6 lbs. 14 oz.
2 weeks - 6 lbs. 8 oz.
3 weeks - 6 lbs. 9 oz.
4 weeks - 7 lbs. 2 oz.

Because Kyle was not back to his birth weight by 3 weeks I had to supplement him at each feeding. I would have to pump between every feeding session and give that milk to Kyle before the next feeding. They were eating every 3 to 4 hours so I was nursing or pumping at least every 2 hours.

Around week 5 Kyle started nursing better so I don't supplement at every feeding any longer. I do give them both a 2 oz. bottle before one of the middle of the night feedings in hopes that they will sleep longer.

Speaking of sleep.... I don't get any! I'm really amazed that my body is still running after 6 weeks of getting on average 4-5 hours of sleep a night and at 1 1/2 or 2 hours at a time. I've heard all along that I should sleep when they sleep. Well, if they don't sleep at the same time that can be hard to do.

OK, enough complaining. I know you guys don't read this to hear me complain... you come for the pictures! I don't blame you... look how freaking cute they are!
