The Blanket Tester

I bought a bottle of Dreft baby detergent over the weekend and did my first load of baby laundry on Sunday. As Jason was watching football, I was sitting in the chair taking the tags off of everything. I opened up some blankets that Beth bought for the boys, and I tossed one over to Jason and told him to feel how soft it was.

I suppose he wanted to make sure the blanket would get the job done once the boys are here so he had to try it out. I think it passed his test!

Next appointment is Wednesday. Can't wait!

24 Weeks

Here is what says is going on this week...

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long, he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

I have a feeling that mine are well over a pound (since they weighed a pound each at 20 weeks) and probably more than a foot long as well.

And here is the dreaded picture. I almost forgot to take it again this morning. I'm wearing my work clothes instead of PJs.

I'm almost afraid to type this, but I don't remember having heartburn the past couple of days. I know its been a while since I've taken a Rolaid or Tums.

But, swollen feet have replaced the heartburn. It's pretty much an all day thing, but they are the worst at the end of the day. I try to sit with my feet elevated when I get home and that seems to help. And for some reason my left foot is always bigger than the right one.

There is not too much else going on. Jason and I are close to deciding on names. We'll have a big reveal soon. Our next appointment is Wednesday. I'm hoping we get to see the little cuties again.

Way Back Wednesday

A year ago today Jason was just getting back from Vegas for his Bachelor Party.
Can you believe this guy will be a Dad in three months? Hehe! Makes me laugh! How can you not love that goof ball?!

I got the call from the Waco ToysRUs that the baby furniture made it there last Friday. And I could tell by the phone call that they hardly knew what was going on there. Those suspicions were confirmed on Sunday when we went to pick it all up. The customer service representative told me that they almost sent it all back to the Austin store because they didn't know who it was for. She said they didn't because they eventually found the bright blue piece of paper with my information on it attached to the outside of one of the boxes. Probably the point of the bright blue piece of paper! Ugh, I hate that store!

So Sunday afternoon, my mom and refugee sister came over to help clear out the guest bedroom and transform it into a nursery for two baby boys. (Small side note-- Jenny found out that she gets to go back to Galveston to survey the damage to her apartment this Wednesday. She heard from friends that she has at least two broken windows. She and my Mom are driving down there Wednesday morning to clean up, clear out the refrigerator, and try to cover up the broken windows. They have to be headed back home by 6 pm because of the mandatory curfew. She doesn't expect to have power at her apartment for a few weeks, but classes will resume next Monday, the 29th. Not sure how she is going to work that one!)

Jenny's boyfriend, Jarrod, was also over, watching football with Jason. We borrowed the boys for a while to help with the heavy lifting, but once we got all the boxes inside the ladies took over. Thankfully, the dresser came assembled. Jenny, Mom and I went to work on the first crib. I read the instructions and pointed out the different pieces as Jenny and Mom put them together. We were quite the team. And it was nice being able to complete the task without any screaming, yelling, or cuss words. I'm not so sure that would have happened if my Dad or Jason were involved! Once finished putting the two cribs together, we did a little furniture rearranging to find the best place for everything. The room is small, but we got the two cribs, dresser, glider, and ottoman to fit quite nicely.

There is still plenty to do. I need to replace the curtains with some room darkening shades of some sort. And I haven't really made any progress on the bedding. Maybe, I'll visit the fabric stores this weekend.

When we were finished, I was sitting in the glider, taking a little breather and both boys started moving and kicking up a storm. I think they were trying to tell us that they liked their new room. Jenny was able to feel a nice strong kick from Baby B, and my Mom could feel Baby A rearranging and getting comfortable.

I really love feeling them move around inside me. I can be having the worst possible day, and a tiny little kick will turn my frown upside down. It's such an amazing feeling and it makes me sad to think about not feeling it ever again just three months from now. But for now, I will relish in the fact that God has allowed me to grow two tiny humans inside me. It's all such an amazing miracle.

23 Weeks

Today is 23 weeks. We are moving right along! I forgot to take a picture this morning before work, so I got Jason to snap one while at work today.

I can feel the babies move and kick all the time now. And I love the feeling. They usually are both playing around 9am, after I get to work and have been sitting for a while, and also at night when I sit down to watch TV or lay down to go to sleep.

Baby B is going to be our wild child. He is always up and moving around. Makes me worry about how he is going to sleep when he is out of the womb.

We all seem to be doing well. Just waiting and growing. Growing and waiting.

Next appointment in 13 days!

More pictures of Harper

Jen and Harper went home last night. They only stayed one night in the hospital, barely over 24 hours. Jen is seriously Wonder Woman.

Jason and I took a dish of chicken enchiladas over last night with major ulterior motives! We got in some good Harper time and got to watch Jeff change his first diaper with out any assistance. He did very well!

Harper has gotten the eating thing down with no problem. She even finds her thumb and first finger to suck on sometimes. I heard via Jason, via Jeff that Harper slept from midnight to 5 am last night. Now seriously, what two day old baby does that? I think she is being a little too easy on her parents!

Harper is Here!

Harper Elle Peel was born Monday, September 15, at 2:01 pm. She weighed in at six pounds and 14 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. She is perfect and beautiful. Her feet are long and skinny.

I'm pretty sure Jen never broke a sweat. She did so great!

Now for the good part... the pictures....

Jason finally felt a kick!

I know this isn't all that cool of news, but I'm using this blog to document things during the pregnancy (since it will probably be my one and only).

And today, at lunch, Jason was able to feel a kick. I felt a swift one on my right side and Jason was sitting next to me so I asked if he wanted to put his hand on my belly and wait and see if it happened again. Usually we will wait for a while with his hand there and then we give up after nothing happens, but today Baby B let his Dad know he was in there, waiting to come out and learn about all things Texas A&M!

All in good time, Baby B. You've got some more growing to do first!

Looks like someone needs to switch to light beer!

22 Weeks!

This is getting out of control. This picture business may need to stop soon!

I've been feeling the boys moving around a lot. I told Jason yesterday that Baby B must have gotten tired of Baby A kicking him because he was hiding out under my left ribs. It really felt weird. I couldn't bend to the left at all.

I've still been feeling the kicks on the outside with my hands, but when I grab Jason's hand it won't happen again. So he is still waiting to be able to feel a kick.

There is not much else going on. Just more growing and waiting. I got a call that the furniture made it to the Austin Babies R Us, but it will take about another week for them to get it to the Waco store. There is no huge rush since that room is still full of random stuff that needs to find a new home.

Next appointment is on October 1st.

The First of Many Shopping Trips

On Saturday, I went with my Mom and Beth to Austin to start shopping for the boys. We were at Babies R Us not long after they opened at 9:30. After literally hours of walking around and even visiting another baby store for more options, I picked out cribs and a dresser.

The cribs can convert to a toddler bed and then a full size bed as the boys grow. I thought that was pretty handy!

We are going to attach a changing pad to the top of the dresser so that it functions as a changing table also. The dresses is pretty tall so this plan really only works for people who are at least six feet tall. Lucky for us, we are!

I decided that I want maroon and khaki bedding to help pull off a "Texas A&M" theme with out going over the top with it. In my head, the bedding will be a mix of maroon and khaki prints, like stripes, polka dots, gingham. I found a few options that will work, but my plan is to try and find some fabrics and hopefully have the bedding made. And if I'm able to go that route, also have the boy's monograms embroidered on the bedding. That is if we can come up with names! We have a short list of possibilities right now that we are trying to add other options to. Hopefully we will have a big reveal someday soon!

Funny story from Babies R Us... After about 2 hours of scoping out baby gear Beth announced that she had had enough and started throwing sweet little items into the shopping cart. She had waited long enough and was ready to start purchasing! Makes me laugh!

Reminds me of my friend, Deborah. Every time she sees me she hands over a huge gift bag with diapers, lotion, cute clothes, etc. Target managers must start jumping for joy when they see her walk in the store.

I'm so grateful that our friends and family are as excited as we are to meet Baby A and Baby B. Jason and I have such wonderful family and friends, and I can't wait for the boys to grow up surrounded by their love and friendship.

21 Weeks

Today is the 21 week mark. More than half way done.

I found out at the ultrasound the other day that Baby B is much higher than I though. The tech started moving that wand thing around and I was like "whoa, there is a baby up there?" I noticed that my stomach was getting harder higher up, but I didn't put two and two together. So, I've only been showing off half the belly all this time! Lovely to know! Here it is in all its grandeur!

In other exciting news, I felt a kick from the outside last night. I was laying in bed, watching TV last night and the boys were playing away. Baby B must have gotten smart and turned back around because I was feeling lots of kicks on my right side. I put my hand on my right side and soon I felt a little thump in my palm.

Jason was in the living room so I called him into the bedroom to see if he could feel it also, but no luck. We waited there with his hand on my belly for a while, but it was odd with him just standing there and waiting. Maybe next time.

We have a big shopping trip planned this weekend with the grandmas! We are going down to Austin on Saturday to check out Baby Mecca (BabiesRUs). I'm not sure who is more excited!

And we have zero ideas for boy names. I had Jason convinced on one girl name, but now we are back at the starting line. I just need to corner him sometime and make some decisions. And despite what he thinks, Rambo Manchild is not an option!

Wait, there is more....

I also found out that I gained ELEVEN pounds. Now for you dear friends not keeping track, that is 20 pounds total. I've read that from here on out I can expect to gain one pound a week. And that's with one baby. With 20 weeks to go, you can do the math. YIKES!!!!

Me: Dad, I gained ELEVEN pounds.

Dad: Yeah, but that is total, right?

Me: No, in four weeks I gained ELEVEN pounds.

Dad: Oh...

Two Boys!

I have quickly become out numbered! Its just me and the dog, and she doesn't even have all of her girl parts!

Jason and I went to our 20 week appointment and also the big ultrasound this afternoon. It took forever for the morning to pass. We were so excited to find out the genders.

The ultrasound tech was super nice. She giggled the entire time at how much both babies were moving. She started taking measurements on Baby A and was able to announce within a few seconds that A is a boy. A very proud boy! Jason literally did a fist pump and yelled "YES" in the little room. Baby A's heart rate was 145 and his head was really low.

The tech could tell we were dying to know the sex of Baby B so she took a look for us. And just as quickly, she was able to tell us that Baby B is a boy as well. Jason looked like a kid on Christmas morning! Baby B's heart rate was 137. His head started out hiding under my left ribs, but then he did a flip and his head was on my right side. He should have stayed where he was because once he flipped around, Baby A kept kicking him in the head.

She told us both fluid levels looked good, good hearts, good spines. A good report all around. They weigh one pound each and were measuring one week ahead of schedule. They both have long legs and HUGE feet. The tech could not believe it. I measured 28 weeks if I was only having one baby.

Now some quotes to capture the mood of the day...

Jason to the Ultrasound Tech: "Can you estimate how big they will be around college age. I need to know what positions to start teaching them."

Jason to someone on his cell phone after the appointment: " Yeah, kids at other schools will say oh no, we have to play the Coats boys this week."

Me: " Oh, think about how much they are going to eat!"

Jason to anyone who would listen: "Do you think it is a coincidence that A&M's offensive line is lacking this year? Hold on Aggies, we're coming."

Jason to me in the doctor's office: "We're going to have to start eating better once they are here. No more queso." Um, I'm calling b.s. on that one!

It was such a fun and exciting day! I'll remember it forever! The day I found out that I'll be a mom to two boys!
